Staff AMA (Valar)

How are new Valar chosen?
All staff members play a game of qwop, furtest dude gets the rank.

@spike010 my time every day on average being busy with mcme either online, teamspeak or forums is probably around 2 hours. More if I'm doing jobs. Then it's probably 4 hours. I for once, don't want to know how much time they spend on mcme. Summed up it would probably be 3000 hours. Or more.

What was the outcome of this, and what became of the 'investigation' into improving work-flow that q mentions in the OP?

Its something that you will have to ask Q. The only thing I can say about work flow is that I take closer look at activity when it comes to buildmod staff.
I have not felt the need to act on poor performance. Although I have thought about it, but I believe in people to get better and rise above/learn from there mistakes. In the end as build Valar I feel responsible for what we build so if it sucks blame me and not my staff (or artist).

Thats all I can say about buildmods though Q might have different ideas about the whole investigation.

That's cool, but I literally just asked about the "drastic changes" suggested in this thread? :S
On 'workflow', this is what q wrote:
I'm investigating the current workflow on the realization of projects, and am considering in revamping the ranks and permissions to give more freedom to finish projects, while eliminating as much downtime as possible
(Not sure where you picked up on "poor performance" or things "sucking")

Since no one was giving you an reply I thought I'd give you a reply. It was not really clear to what you where referring to when you linked to that thread. So my reply might not have been useful.

On topic, there are changes planned in ranks/permissions. But since the details are still being discussed I cannot provide further information on that.

Regarding projects there will be some changes in the upcoming future as well. I have plans to make certain projects public. I will disclose more about that matter when said rank changes are implemented.

As for downtime regarding projects I introduced the backup project leader method. This means whenever a new (large) project gets started by a staff member, he will have to make detailed plans and assign someone who will pick up the project in his absence. Which I hope will eliminate the downtime we have whenever a key staff member goes "missing".
Of course we can never completely avoid losing people to real life matters, but we can at least try and keep the projects on the server going forward using this method.

I hope this answers your question or if I'm lucky at least a part of it (and since Holland won by a penalty I feel pretty lucky today :)).

It does. Thanks!
For the future, maybe you could try print out and hold the below over my avatar when reading my posts - you might be less inclined to try read such negative things from innocuous questions ;P

Final question if there's time:
@Ryanturambar
