...As far as tours go, their purpose is to get new players introduced to the server. Get them plugged in and wanting to return to assist with the project...

Well thats not the Point if there are no Tours right? I know and can understand that you guys dont want to make a tour every day. But having some more regular, atleast on the weekends would be a real pleasure. Not just because school and work, also because most people are joining that days. Wasnt that weekly Tour Thingy once a thing? It kinda died, didnt it?

Short "sneak peek" tours could be done. As opposed to touring such large locations as Eriador or Gondor, a tour could focus on a smaller area, like a city or a smaller region (like Anorien or a part of the Shire). Even if there is not a lot of lore on the area, the tour could serve to tell new people the server lore and show them some cool terrain and villages that they might not have seen if exploring on their own. Each tour could be like 20 to 30 minutes, I think. It would still be long enough to "get new players introduced to the server," but short enough to not cut into your real life obligations.
If this solution is not reasonable, it would be a good idea to look into promoting more guides, I think. That would be the easiest way to get more tours.

Sorry, this post is a little off topic:)

Has it been considered that tours could also be about educating people in the magical world and lore that Tolkien created via the guides displaying their knowledge which is above the general server populations? After all with the goal of this server being to recreate this world it makes sense that people should be taught about the world in more detail, and this is something that would be nice to see now that Finrod and his infinite lore knowledge (all praise) have a bigger presence on the server.

No, not off topic at all! This is exactly why we made this thread. We want your ideas, opinions, and what not. How can we make anything better, if we never ask? At this time, we are looking for more guides to assist is with just that. Touring players, giving us new ideas for events, operation, and roles.

And @_Luk we are discussing how to handle that point. It was discussed at our last guide meeting about a week ago. We are trying to make our schedules more adapt to do that. I too, like more spontaneous tours, when I'm on the server where I can spend anywhere from 10-50 minutes with a player or two and just explore the server. I am not trying to downplay the lack of tours, we are aware of it and are seeking solutions. DSE's suggestion is a wonderful one in my eyes. Especially since my area of expertise is the Shire and server lore, it makes for a great introductory tour. Although, in the past, tours and freebuild were off limits during jobs, which from my understanding are now occurring on Saturdays. However, I do like your idea. We are working to make adjustments and add some more help to our rank in order to accomplish this. I appreciate everyone's ideas and questions! Please keep them coming.

Also, FYI, we are seeking more guides to assist in tours, events, and assisting players, if you have questions about that too, leave them here or pm a guide or dyno.

Finally, this is a place to ask us guide any and all questions you have. This is an AMA after all, anything goes as long as it does not violate the TOS or rules. So ask away to your heart's content! May Speedy Points, Wizard's Bane, and NAMCLA live on forever as they are mainstay's of the server and its ranks!

Jobs do take place on Saturdays mostly, but as they are scheduled you guides can easily log in between these job hours and look out for Adventurers keen to explore the map.

Doing tours for new people telling them to much lore (because that always happens)it just turns into a boring tour. Is it possible to have tours for new players without telling tons of lore but be more focused on showing places and basics information of them?

Following on from Trex's comment, perhaps there could be two different tours, one on a saturday and one on a sunday. Saturday could be to welcome the new people and get them acquainted with the server but not going too lore crazy so people who can't comprehend too much information don't get overwhelmed and a tour on the sunday specifically targeted towards people and educating them more in the lore of the world. Thoughts?

Yes, we used to schedule weekly tours, but these were discontinued due to low attendance.

We are currently looking into this option and hope to have more information about it soon.

Not every Guide can be Jord/Fornad/Finrod. If people really want to learn in-depth lore, there are lots of good books and websites with that information. Putting the expectation of complete lore knowledge on Guides is not reasonable.

What responsibilities do you wish you had (think you could handle) that you currently don't?
According to the Offical MCME Guide Manual, our only responsibilities are to welcome new members, help answer questions, and give tours. We do a few other things as well. For example, we keep many important documents (such as the Build Status, Current Rank List, and MCME Timeline) up to date. We are also heavily involved in planning many different events for the community. Neither of these are listed responsibilities, but I think we handle them fairly well. As far as new responsibilities, personally I think I have quite enough of them already, thank you very much.
What is the most annoying thing that has ever happened to you guys on the job?
I'm assuming by 'job' you mean 'doing Guide stuff', so I'm excluding my IRL jobs, which could be a short novel. As a Guide the most annoying thing that people can do is ask for assistance (whether that be answering a question or requesting a tour) and then leave or ignore our reply. My time is valuable and I choose to spend a good amount of it helping the MCME community, so a little respect would be nice.

This is the last day of the AMA, so if have other questions/suggestions, ask us soon !
