• Welcome to MCME!

Minecraft Middle Earth is a Minecraft community that recreates the world described by JRR Tolkien and his writings. Everyone can participate in organized events in which we collaborate to create major landmarks, terrain, caves, castles, towns, farms and more.

TheHobbit Anniversary build events.

The idea is that every September we would host building events focused around theHobbit for the anniversary.
For instance; one year we could build High Pass, the next Goblin Town, the next wherever that place is with Beorn, the next Mirkwood, the next Laketown, the next Dale, the next we would finally build Erebor. This is a seven year plan, and would only take one month out of each year, not taking away from the building of any other area. This would help with all those people that joined because of TheHobbit and not 'cause LotR. #EreborVamp

Good idea, would everyone on the server participate in the event and where would it be built, if it's built by a bunch of adventurers it won't be up to the building standards of the server.

These would be the same as any other job, except for the fact there will likely be a lot more Artists and Foreman on hand :) For instance; for High Pass there would be people with WE and Voxel brought in to clean up a bit of that still sandy terrain, and then comes the job to clean that up, and place paths leading up to Goblin Town.

I really like your enthusiasm. Unfortunately I fear it's not that easy.

First I have to ask for clarification: Do you think of event builds just for fun which are removed again after a few weeks. Or are you talking about build projects for permanent progress on the main map?

The first option might work. But would require a discussion among the team as we have quite a lot of events during each year. I doubt we have the workforce for another one of this size.

The second option sadly is very unrealistic. Experience over the last years shows that we can't progress with such a pace. We'll need a lot of textures first and it would of course not work parallel with Moria and Mordor projects.
And there is another very important point Our main goal at MCME is recreating Middle-earth in Minecraft together. If you stay for a while at MCME you'll notice that building (though it is a lot of fun) becomes some kind of work. It has a bit of the burden of an every-day task. With my 8+ years on MCME I can tell you and I believe quite a lot of team members would agree. Therefore our team enjoys Events as a kind of distraction from building Middle-earth, something to relax and have fun without the burden to aim for a perfect result in build quality. That's why our events are not permanent builds.

Hmm interesting, I was meaning the later, just swapping most of the jobs in that month to be Hobbit Themed. I don't think we'd need more than a couple textures for that, except in the case of maybe Erebor, but by the time we get to that we would probably have a lot of new textures already. I realize it's unlikely we'd be able to finish any project within the time of one month, however we could get a whole lot done in that time. For instance; we wouldn't "complete the Mistys" We could however fill in the path through the Mistys so someone would be able to walk through unhindered. This idea is really so that we could get some of the smaller stuff done so we can at a later date get right to building the big stuff. I mentioned Erebor as one of those build events, however it's likely something like that would have to be put off, and then have a lot more time spent on it. Basically the end result of these events would be so you could walk through and say "This is the path Mr.Bilbo took Sir" in a Samwise Gamgee voice, however you probably couldn't walk through and say "These are the halls Mr.Bilbo helped liberated Sir" Because we would put that off until after the current running projects :)

I do like your idea tbh. I think it can possible be looked at by the Guides next year, to hold some sort of small Hobbit Events. (altho we do have summer events and anniversary events already around that time.)
As a builder I agree with Eriol, I do prefer relaxed Events that are fun and enjoyable to join or host, with not to much pressure of being to standards. Something that gives a nice break between the other work we do. (that does not include Build Days, which are something else)

but in the case of holding jobs and building the roads, towns, forest etc for the Hobbits on main map for a month, I think that is rather unrealisitc.
Not only is it a lot of work to organize, It would also require a lot of work before hand. Besides having the textures, It takes time, research, planning, and concept making before you can actually start building and holding jobs. So the fun thing you would do in that day/month would take a lot more time to prepare, and it would take away a lot of time on what we are trying to build atm.
Even tho it might "only" be the roads, finishing such projects within a month is rather unrealistic and chances are that in a couple of years when the project actually starts it will be redone. (altho i do know this is MCME and revamps are inevitable :p )
So imo I do think doing all this work already would be a waste of time that could be used elsewhere.
