As a few of you might remember, back in one of the last summer events I donated a prize for one of the event winners. I don't recall what event or who won it. But hopefully Narsil is hanging proudly on a wall still. I had (had is the important part here) Anduril as well, and planned on possibly donating that as another prize. Unfortunately, after the sword ended up at my firehouse, me and the guys decided to test the swords mettle.

DISCLAIMER this was a united cutlery sword. A DISPLAY sword, in no way battle ready or made for hitting stuff. So dont get any ideas if you have any of these "toy" swords in your possession.

That being said, the damn thing held up quite well. It was here for well over a month, and got more than a fair share of whacks and smacks against all sorts of much harder materials. Concrete, old refrigerators, solid wood park benches. Anything we had lying around got chopped with ole anduril. Now, the first thing to go was the Pommel. The metal end without the leather grip (if you know what the sword looks like you know what im talking about) broke off the first day. But after hammering the end of the handle with a maul, it basically riveted the handle in place. The nest few weeks saw all kinds of abuse, but nothing breaking the sword any further. Then we come to tonight. We laid a 4x8 section of plywood against a wall and started flinging the sword at it. We lost 1 piece of the cross guard a few throws in. The other side came off a few minutes later. But the sword did amazingly well. I managed to get a few GREAT throws in, getting the blade buried in the 1/2 plywood more than once.

But, alas the old sword must have lost most of its former power. An here we come to it. The end of "The Flame of the West"!!

Update....

Apparently someone thought it was a good idea to video this whole thing, and got a pretty good throw of mine in slow motion. Sorry for the quality, its an iPhone at night.

......................WELL! Photo Bucket wont let me upload the video. As soon as I find a place that will, i'll get it up

How sharp was the blade actually? I own United Cutlery's Hadhafang replica and that one is god dang sharp - did easily cut through my sleeve when I tried to clean the fingerprints from it. Haven't tried to cut anything - or anyone - i half with it yet tho...

Finrod you would be amazed at the carnage this (probably $15-20 cost to make) sword caused. We had an old refrigerator that we literally hacked into. The blade cut through 3-4 inches. That was mostly blunt force and the weight of the blade, but it never broke. In fact, after the pommel broke the first day, nothing else made the sword flinch until we started tossing it across the yard. The throw that broke the grip off completely was from over 50 feet. The guy hurled it both hands and it only broke because it hit handle first, went THROUGH the wood and hit the metal ladder behind it.

Needless to say, it took more punishment than I ever thought possible

Edit: it wasn't sharp. It had a faux edge. So mabye as sharp as a wood axe, which aren't actually sharp but more like wedged if that helps
