The New MCME Times [6/30/19]

Mid Summer Middle Earth!
There's nothing like Summer Minecraft!

Editor's Note by Soarz
Were half way through the summer and its still as hot as always, so I hope all the workers are getting enough water. Projects are advancing and work is being done all over. Moria has made immense progress with halls going up and jobs being ran - but don't worry! Revamps are happening too. The new JobBot has helped in making it easier for Foreman to make jobs more available and open. Be sure to be on the look out for them, they are fun and open to all!

~ Project Progress ~

Anorien – Lead: @Oberanio | In Progress
Report by _Lord_Of_Squids_

Great progress in Anorien! The terrain around Osgiliath just needs a bit more smoothing and it will be complete, and Didi has started work on terrain in his area. Dol Calen, lead by Lindolas, is being worked on as well.

Andrast - Lead: @jacenpeter | In Progress
Report by _Lord_Of_Squids_

Jacen has been out of town for the past couple weeks so no progress here, but now that he’s back we can all expect some more of his fabulous mountains!

Belfalas – Lead: @Darki , | In Progress

Report by _Lord_Of_Squids_

Due to its dependence on the 1.13 update there hasn’t been much progress here, although Araburg and some farms are being worked on. Once we update, we expect to finish it up quickly and move on to Mordor!

Lond Daer – Lead: @Ivan1pl | In Progress
Report by NicovicTheSixth

New year new chances as some might say, this especially is the case for Lond Daer. Although its leadership is similar to the previous attempt, it has the additional staff member of Fireinferno13 being the right hand man of Ivan1pl. The current plan is to redo the terrain, which is already under way. Then there will also be a new style, which is more similar to the newer styles, however this does require an update of the Eriador resource pack. Sadly this will take a long time, though this will be a nice opportunity to update the Eriador resource pack!

Mordor – Lead: @barteldvn | In progress
Report by _Lord_Of_Squids_

We still await the 1.13 update to start this project.

Moria – Lead: @barteldvn | In progress
Report by NicovicTheSixth

Again we have some interesting developments in Moria! First of all, we have a new planner, DoctorDaom. He is going to be working together with NicovicTheSixth to fix the planning of Moria and make Moria great again! Furthermore there has been some progress near the west gate, as JonatanKnalle has taken over the meeting hall! Lastly there is also a new texturer in Moria, NicovicTheSixth. He is going over all existing textures and updating them or adding variations and sometimes both, check the thread over at the textures section of the forums!

Osgiliath Vegetation – Lead: @ooitsbirdo | In progress
Report by _Lord_Of_Squids_

Lots of progress going on here! FoolhardyFish and his droogs have been hard at work, and the camp area by Ruben’s contest winning build is soon to be started. Ooitsbirdo is hard at work mindlessly building and pasting trees!

~ Winners of “The Week” ~
As usual, this week the community has made a number of creative works of art. Make sure you show some special recognition towards the winners of the week! They’ve presented exemplary displays of our server’s creative potential! Well done!

MEDIA OF THE WEEK:
Let me start by thanking the community for the continual wave of screenshots. They are very important for our media outlets (Facebook, Twitter, Reddit), which are very important introducing people to our server. Special thanks to @Xmine01, @Jonatanknalle and @_Lord_Of_Squids_ for their large amount of quality screenshots.
I was happy to see quite nice screenshots of Moria this week. Moria is (one of our) largest project(s), but it is quite hard to make nice screenshots without sunlight. Most shaders do not support night vision, but some do. Make sure to ask @Xmine01 and @RVB_Legend how they did it.

If you are interested in making screenshots, post them in our #screenshot-feedback channel in our Discord server. Two general tips: (1) get a nice shader pack and (2) improve your camera angle by flying back and turning down your FOV (aka zooming in).

THEME-BUILD OF THE WEEK:
The theme-builds of the past week showed a lot of potential. Many new adventurers proved their skills, and perhaps a possible builder career? In fact there was so much potential that I could not possibly add more honorable mentions than there are currently, so if you feel that your theme-build should have been included, it might be because of the already high number. Or because you’re already a builder and probably should be working on something else than theme-builds (*cough* Smaug and Roel).

~ Lore of the Week ~
Dwarven Romance:
Dwarves are, like with most of their traditions, quite peculiar about their romance. Gimli tells us a little bit about this topic in the Lord of the Rings. More of this is said in the Appendices and in Peoples of Middle-earth.
Let's talk about Dwarven women. They are a rare site for outsiders. They usually don't travel, and if they do, they are not recognizable as females, for other races, for they dress like, sound like, and look like male Dwarves; they even have beards. This has given rise to the comical rumor that Dwarves 'grow out of stone'.
Actually only one third of the Dwarves are female ('at birth'). This naturally gives Dwarven males a disadvantage in the field of reproductive struggles.
Dwarves are not as interested in mating as the other races of Middle-earth. In fact, only one fourth of the male Dwarves and half of the female Dwarves marry. A reason for this is the natural stubbornness so typical to this race. A Dwarf only desires one Dwarf in his/her life; if he/she cannot get him/her, they refuse to marry anyone else. Other Dwarves desire no romance; they are engrossed in their crafts.
Because of these characteristics, the Dwarven population grows very slowly, and at times even decreases. If one third of all Dwarves (both genders) - as we figured out - marry and reproduce, they would need to have six (!) kids on average to keep the population from dwindling. This sounds like a lot for modern people, but those were normal numbers in some times in history. A problem with this number however, is that all Dwarven family trees only show three children at max. Possibly the family trees did not include all relatives. This is very possible, because the trees only show one female (Dís, Thorin II's sister), whilst way more than twice as many males.
So in conclusion: most Dwarves did not marry, out of disinterest or because of a trauma, and those few that did, had a whole lotta children. Being parent must have been a profession in and of itself for Dwarves.
One last interesting note (from The War of Jewels, Concerning Dwarves), says that mostly the chieftains and kings wed, while the typical Dwarf seldom did. So the one third proportion is on average; in fact of the general Dwarven population, that number is even lower!

~ More Media ~

Woop woop! Everyone’s favourite part of the times has returned again! Huzzah! We gotta kick off this with the usual twitter. Be sure to give us a “hello!” at MinecraftMiddleEarth (@MCMiddleEarth) | Twitter . Who knows, Cookies may be involved!

Twitter is not the most popular “social platform”, so for you “yooves” with a trendy Facebook account, try following us there too at Minecraft Middle-Earth

But of course, the most important and obviously most used social network is of course Planet Minecraft! Be sure to give us a diamond there. It costs nothing! Minecraft Middle Earth Minecraft Server

(What do you mean Snapchat is more popular than Planet Minecraft of course it isn’t)

Artist
Ahh yes. We all know the question. “How can I build?", As well as the responses “You can try a theme build” and “You can take part in jobs." The other answer is “Apply for Artist”, and the last option is by far the most exciting. Being able to build in your favourite places all the time. Sounds awesome. We can never have enough Artists, and with a wide range of current projects, there’s plenty for you to do!
Are you inspired by joining MCME’s main build rank? You can apply for Artist/ today on the forums! The Assistants, Designers and current Artists will work with you and help you on your journey.

Guide
Or perhaps, you’re not a builder. Well. That’s not a problem! Becoming A guide is obviously the better option anyway. As a Guide, you’re the forefront of MCME, and there’s no greater feeling than when someone says your tour was awesome. You don’t actually have to be a lore nerd either, you’ll pick up on lots really quickly.
When you join the Guides, you’ll be giving tours, running minigames and testing players in lore quizzes, or if you prefer less “on the spot” stuff, Guidebooks are obviously your zen, or helping to tell MCME about MCME by writing up articles in the times. You’ll also plan help plan events such as The Summer Events and The Anniversary Events. We hope you join us soon, because us Guides really would love some more of us. What’re you waiting for?
Just click Guide and apply today!

~ Closing Statement ~

That is all for this weeks times, we all hope you enjoyed it! Even though this weeks times is smaller it can still be enjoyable. There are many new things to come as well as new projects to join!

Great job for the Times Team, who did what they had to do, great job!

I love reading the times! This is only the second issue I have read, since I wasn't around when it was released previously, and I love reading updates about all the projects happening on the server.

No interviews this time? Well it was a great issue regardless (issue as in publication issue, not a problematic issue). I'm always up for being in the Times, although... I've already been interviewed once way back and my answers to most of the questions probably haven't changed that much.
