Army schmarmy....

Did 6 years in the Marine Corps....... which reminds me.

To those of you who left the flowers by my little tribute on freebuild, It made me smile....

Seriously, that was awesome of you (you know who you are).

Enough of the mushy stuff! In the 6 years in the Corps I experienced a lot of crazy schitt. I went in mid 1997 thinking I'd do 4 years and GTFO with some money for college. Then, towards the end of my (supposed) 4 years, my dad passed away in August 15th 2001, then everyone knows what happened September 11th, 2001. With all that crazy stuff going on I decided to re-up for 2 years. Thata way I wouldn't have to serve in reserve status at all after discharge. (I also wanted to maybe kill some bad guys) From 98 to 2001 I was a machine gunner .........

Just got a call... WILL CONTINUTE

~my own personal snip~

I was a gunner in an assault infantry unit when I started out. After 9/11/01, I decided to re up my enlistment for at minimum 2 years. I never wanted to be a lifer like dear ole dad. I did however, want in on some payback. As imbecilic and immature as it sounds, many of the guys I went over with... and I'm talking from your new grunt to your salty officer were in the same mindset. I ended up with a Expeditionary Unit in Afghanistan for just about the rest of my time in. I've been in all kinds of crap, and none of it was fun. The guys who think that stuff is fun are still in it. I did what I did and got what I got outta it.

Other than that, ask me. I might tell ya more.

I'am not military but I'am in the emergency services sector so I have the understanding of what it means to provide a service and representation to the community in times of need and distress.

Before I go into my side of things, I know you're currently going through the recruitment / training process, Jake. Maybe you can provide some updates as to how you're going, your expectations, experiences and what you hope to learn as you go through it all.

well, signing up was a long process of paper work and tests, when i first went in to the recruiter i was expecting a huge *sshole, but my recruiter was very chill and we actually had a lot in common. he asked me why i wanted to join i explained that this is all i ever wanted to do, this is the career i want to carry on. i was giving atleast 3 pounds of paper work to fill out, but yet i only had to fill out a couple pages it was SGT Dickie who had to do the rest. i filled it all out and handed it back in, he said "ill send it to Ottawa and when it comes back ill let you know," i waited for about a month before getting a call from him, i was chosen out of 100 people to come and do multiple tests to see if i was fit enough smart enough and calm enough to join. i had to wake up at 4:30 am and did tests all the way till 6:45pm. i passed everything but they always send the results to a man in Ottawa, the main Doctor is what he is called or something like that. SGT dickie told my friend and i who are doing this all together waited for 3 weeks to get an email back.
i got this the other day

Sgt
Recruiter 1NSH(N)
i go in this thursday to get my kit, for the past fe2w days i've been running around and cleaning stuff.
but the feeling you get is truly amazing depending on how bad you want to get in.
so far ive been havnig fun and meeting tons of new and awesome people!

some of my expectations are to learn how to fire a rifle with precision accuracy, which the C7-A2 is good for, im really wanted to learn on how the army trains and what tactics they use for operations, i also reallllllyyyyy am looking forward to the kit i get holding all the gear, and plus wearing a kilt is a plus
i hope to learn tons of things so much for experiences there has been a lot of signing stuff, i hear the word money and serving a lot, i've also been able to clean a rifle so far not shoot one yet.

..... In the US, you go to a recruiter for the Amry, Navy ect and say I wanna be a soldier. Then they're like "REALLY!? I-I-I mean, 'Oh really', you think you got what it takes......?" Meanwhile the guys in the back are high-fiving cause they're 1 more closer to their quota.

none of that is true.

That sweet Mando! So are you weapons tech?

Since I've been in for almost a year now i guess i should post on this thread and give an update.
I finished BMQ and my basic infantry coarse and Advanced Infantry coarse. During BMQ we just learned the basic stuff like the name says. We learned how to march how to shoot rifles and stand still like a frigging statue. BMQ was two months, only weekends though. so all together if it was weeks and weekends it would have only been a month or around that. My BMQ grad went pretty good.
Here is my father and I at my graduation. http://imgur.com/CCmyEu2

Only three days after my grad. I was sent to the biggest military base in the common wealth, or on of the biggest. While i was there i learned a lot of crazy things. I learned how to be an Infantry soldier and survive in the field for long amounts of time. The summer was the best time of my life because I became really good friends with everyone because we all went through the same pain. The huge amounts of push ups. waking up at 4:30 every morning we worked and went for 10 k jogs. While i was there i lost a total of 30 pounds. which I didn't believe at the beginning. I measured myself multiple times because I didn't believe it.
We did multiple tests, along with the hardest test in the infantry. the scoring system was 47 shots.you had to get 30 shots on target to pass. This test involved a lot of running, calm breathing and being able to reload very quickly. If you got more than 40 shots on target you were given the marksmen patch to prove you had the marksmen ship principles, and are able to shot under pressure and stress. I failed the test the first time by 5 points. The second time i took the test i passed with a 43, sadly i didn't get the patch since i failed the first test.
http://imgur.com/kJXQrm3 This is my platoon that i did the infantry coarse with. we lost 10 people over the summer due to injuries and them not being able to take what was being thrown at them. Try to find me
At the graduation our berets were taken from us and we were given our regimental head dress. The balmoral. We were also given our regimental coin. I was now a Nova Scotian highlander.

http://imgur.com/fXA0zUK Here we see my best friend over the summer, his name is Matt. We slept beside each other all summer. we shared a trench for a week, and we still patrol together now when on exercises. I have his consent to post pictures of him.
Here we are on patrol in -25 degrees C. http://imgur.com/EWsJuoP
Now that I'm trained I've helped teach Cadets on winter warfare, I've played a Refugee man stealing food, and lots more.
This was by far the best choice of my life.

Back from training, the entire brigade gets attacked and destroyed exept my company till the last day of battle. We finally got attacked and completely destroyed the opfore.

Where was your training?

When I worked for Phila Fire Dept. my captain(fire dept) was an ex army Ssgt. He was M1 armor. While at a yearly refresher and tactics thingy at Yuma they were part of a night simulation where the objective was not to be found by he enemy. After 6 hours of hide n seek they were seconds away from being the only tank platoon not found. My captain (the staff sergeant) had main cannon durring the drill. With seconds counting down and the "enemies" helicopter in his sights get took a shot... (They use lazer weapons during those drills, he didn't shoot a real round) Then the training ended.

In the debriefing room, the commander of the whole base, who happened to be in the helicopter asked at the end of the debrief, "oh and by the way, who fired at the chopper when you were seconds out?" The capt raises his hand to the dismay of his platoon. "Well son, there's always one idiot in the group. This time it wasn't you though. You're the first person to shoot down the copter with main cannon since we've been doing this. Good shot, don't ever try it again".

Then a resounding YES SIR!

We had quite a bit of Armour running around and a lot of aircraft flying for us. The hardest part has been coming up to and lraving this place
