~The MCME Times~ #3/15

Opening Statement

Aaaand its Sunday again, and a new edition of the Times is ready to be read. Progress is again at a normal pace, and overall this week was a rather quiet one. But I don't want to annoy you with many more empty words, enjoy this weeks Times and have a good start in the upcoming week!

>========================================================================<

Project Progress
Ethring (/warp ethtemp)

Annúminas (In Progress) - Lead: @Wollip666
The first time since Wollip joined back in 2011 he was granted some time off from his server duties. As he's currently enjoying his holidays, so does his current project.

Calembel (In Progress) - Lead: @Ivan1pl
The sand is gone and instead a fantastic site for this city at the river Ciril has been created by our newest staff member. Even more, already first outlines can be found and also some first style concepts have been made. Expect a very unique looking and admirable town soon here; check out the site by doing /warp Caletemp

Dol Amroth (In Progress) - Lead: @demonataz
Artists to duty, Dol Amroth needs your helping hand! Many new houses have been marked out in the city that are ready to be turned into more than just wool outlines. So gather your building materials and construct some nice houses!
Beside that, planning on both the market place and the hopefully majestic palace has been started.

Edhellond (In Progress) - Lead: @KlemensPlusLukas
The progress here is going steady, as you may have seen, the terrain around Edhellond has been mostly finished. Also adding details to the town has been started, aswell as the docks are almost finished. So its just a question of time until the griefing is starting, stay tuned!

Lebennin (In Progress) - Lead: @wodleth
Still a big grey patch that fills out dynmap. But I who am working since summer on a couple of mountains can very well reassure that such immense terrain chunks take their time to finish. Keep voxelling wod!

Lossarnach (In Progress) - Lead: @Tyrhanystrasz
Only a small valley at the source of the river Erui is left to be done. It features a nice mansion, probably Gandalf's summer residence when he's not busy fighting Balrogs.
Be sure to do /warp Pelargir and then stray northwards to explore that region with its many small villages.

Misty Mountains (In Progress) - Lead: @Finrod_Amandil
The terrain shape of the huge area around Nimrodel has been completed, what is left to do there is adding all the materials. Oh wait, actually the terrain there isnt yet completely done, something I still wanted to add, can't remember right now, but I still have in mind that it will be frikkin amazing and that I didnt want to tell anyone about it ere it's done...

Pelargir (In Progress) - Lead: @Credoo
Progress is unstoppable in this city: The first big buildings have been tackled and new house markings have been added. Artists can build on the yellow outlines again.
Everything looks like the name - Pelargir aka Garth of Royal Ships - is more than appropriate!

Public Projects:

Agar and Udul (In Progress) - Lead: @Nightfalcon14
Agar already seems to be completed, if you havent done yet, be sure to check it out asap (Rohan pack)!
The terrain of Udul is being worked on atm by Project Staff @DSESGH. I guess we should praise him for all the nice terrain that was created there.

Ethring (In Progress) - Lead: @AWOL777
It revealed itself to be in fact a public project, lead by our long proven Artist Awol. The most important part of Ethring, the bridge, is already mostly complete, in a really unique style that is. Well done so far, now give that small but beautiful perl its final polish!

Lothlórien Vegetation (In Progress) - Lead: @yourie98
Slowly Lothlórien is blooming up; to the new trees from last week now the first bushes sprouted. And more trees are getting added consecutively.

Shire Trees (In Progress) - Lead: @K1sk1BBab35

Another place where trees are sprouting is the Shire! Artists can still work directly on-site, Adventurers have still the opportunity to build trees in plotworld.

Be sure to check whether there are still any public projects left to claim or join. New ones may get added at any time!

This Week's Highlights

Media of the Week

Just after the release of Last week's Times, @Noahtaylor8 submitted a large number of screenshots from different places of Eriador. Check all of them out >>here<<

Hobbiton

While kinda being compelled to take screens for the Times now, and aswell being eager to make em look nice, I gained some knowledge to do these nice screens. Here's another "Times-exclusive" one from a recently finished section of the misties. The temporary warp /warp glaciers leads you to this area.

Misty Mountains

Build of the Week

As promised by @KlemensPlusLukas, he did follow John Howe's painting of Edhellond, and it seems like that was a good idea!

Edhellen mi Ennorath - Elvish in Middle-Earth

Part 3 - Cities

Similar to what we did in the first edition we will have a look at reoccuring elements in place names through Middle-Earth, so if you ever need a name for a town in Middle-Earth, maybe for your entry to the Short Story Contest (see below), this episode of Edhellen mi Ennorath gives you some first knowledge you need to create one.

There are multiple words you can use if you want to create a settlement, each of them has a very specific connotation though, so be careful on what you choose!

  • Ost (fortified city / town with wall around)
    Examples: Ost-in-Edhil ("city of the elves"), Fornost ("Northcastle"), Tarnost (exact meaning unknown), Osgiliath ("city of the stars")

  • Minas (city with watchtower)
    Minas Tirith ("Tower of the Guard"), Minas Morgul ("Tower of black sorcery"), Annúminas ("Tower of the West")

  • Lond (harbor / coastal city)
    Examples: Lond Daer ("Great harbor"), Mithlond ("Grey havens"), Edhellond ("Elf haven")

  • Barad (fortress, fort, tower)
    Examples: Barad-dûr ("dark tower"), Barad Nimras ("White tower")
However you dont need to use a special element denoting what it is:
Linhir ("Song river" [not entirely clear]), Calembel ("Green Flagstone"), Dol Amroth ("Hill of Amroth"), Tharbad ("crossway")

The words mentioned above can be combined with other words in many different ways, however as in some cases there may occur difficulties (e.g. that when you combine Ost and giliath, the result is Osgiliath and not *Ostgiliath.
Thus its easiest to just take one of the words above and place a second word (noun or adjective) next to it (space in between).

If you need a special name for your story or for whatever else, feel free to write it into the comments and i'll gladly look at it!

This week I allow myself to put up a quick poll regarding this format; I just want to go sure whether its worth to keep putting time into it or if the interest in it is not that big. Please cast your vote!

Community Outreach

~~~~~~
Short Story Contest:
@Tyrhanystrasz organised a Short Story Contest. Until the 29th of march you can submit your fan-fiction based on Arda / Tolkiens Lore. The winner can win a gift card and the 3 best stories get featured here in the Times!
For more info read >>this post<<
Times Feedback:
Have a thought concerning the presentation of the MCME Times and how it can be improved? Because we are always looking for new ways to mix up and improve the Times experience through any means necessary and, if you have a comment or concern, it's likely that someone else had it as well and just didn't say anything about it. So be sure to message @Finrod_Amandil your thoughts through a PM or directly in this thread.
Closing Statement
I'll close these Times with a quote that is also kind of a principle of mine, and I hope that out there are many more people thinking this way.
Do right. Do your best. Treat others as you want to be treated.
