~The MCME Times~ #2/16

Sunday, January 17, 2016

Opening Statement
Hello everyone, and welcome to another edition of the Times. In the last two weeks, the world of popular culture suffered two losses: first, David Bowie, then Alan Rickman. This edition is in memory of these two influential celebrities, especially but not limited to Rickman’s portrayal of Snape in the Harry Potter movies. However, we also had here on MCME two project completions, so all balances out in the end. I hope you enjoy this week’s Times.

Announcements
News from @Tyranystrasz:
Plugins for the upcoming survival map (which is apparently a thing?) are about 60% done. The map itself has been created, although spawn and shops will be finished after the plugins. Meanwhile, Tyr has also started to work on recreating the Builder School from the freebuild. Artists and up are encouraged to pm him if you want to contribute.

Project Progress

Aldburg Revamp (Finished) - Lead: @Fireinferno13
The original fortress in Rohan is done! Big shout out to everyone who contributed building houses, roads, shops, and stables to make this project what it is. I think it is no doubt that the end project is truly spectacular and I could not have done it without all the help along the way!

- Fire
Congratulations to Fire from the Times Team!

Andrast (In Progress) - Lead: @jacenpeter
So last week I got almost all of the eastern arm of the mountains shaped nicely. I started turning the east arm of the whites to stone, hopefully by Monday there will be drastic change to the view of the area from dynmap.

- jacen

Anfalas (In Progress) - Lead: @DSESGH
Over the past two weeks, trees have sprouted up all over the once-empty green of Anfalas. Even more excitingly, infrastructure like roads, bridge, and fords have started to be constructed. Not long now until we get to villages!

Lamedon (In Progress) - Lead: @Eriol_Eandur
The small streams around the central mountains of Lamedon are finished at last. On the the next step! Meanwhile, farms and streams have been made over the rest of the region, including around Tree’s Hollow. Thanks to @Ryiw, @blocks119, and all others who participated in the jobs.

Misty Mountains (In Progress) - Lead: @Emilio_ & @Finrod_Amandil
This week the work done in the Misties is purely amazing. On Sunday we had an incredibly stressful but even more productive job, with a total of eleven helpers, thanks to all who tuned in and dug streams with me for multiple hours! Later in the week we had another one of these jobs and dug even more of the numerous streams.

On Friday I had my 12 hour voxel marathon that I promised a few weeks ago. From about 10 hours onwards my brain started melting and I started saying and doing weird stuff like promoting @BurgundyStig up and down the ranks to entertain the Adventurers... I managed to terraform an area half the size of Lothlorien, although its just way too flat to be exciting Of section 2 a bit more than half of the area is now terraformed!

We also had a very efficient High Moors job this Saturday, most amazing was that the worker team decided to make two more sections instead of going to play PVP right again

Thanks a lot to everyone who helped, maybe some more of this next week!

- Finrod

Revamps (In Progress)
Fornost (@Demonataz) - Artists are asked to ruin houses marked with red wool in their leisure. Otherwise, Fire has set up an open plotbuild (/warp Fornost FB) for Adventurers to work on ruining one house at a time - if you are interested, please ask a staff member before starting!

Public Projects:

House of Tarannon Falastur (In Progress) - Lead: @Wroxxite
Alright, over the past two weeks all of the actual construction has been finished! The underground dock and bathhouse is officially done. All that remains is interior work and and some roads that adventurers can do in jobs. If any Artists would like to help please contact me if I am online and I can give you a task. If everything goes to plan I only expect the project to last less than a month!

- Wrox

Linhir Outskirts (Finished) - Lead: @Nic1337
The terrain around Linhir is not plain anymore and has gotten a nice village, many farms and improved rivers. It has taken a whopping four months, but after this time Linhir has farms to be proud off.

- Nic
A big congrats to Nic from the Times team for his first project!

Rank Updates
  • @blocks119 and @WalpoleLegoMen have been promoted to Artist!
  • @Eaglz has become an Artist again, after he was away from the server for a bit.
  • @kisos decided to take a break from Designer. To quote Finrod, “Having to terraform mountains for months understandably leaves its traces.

MCME Travel Guide - @Portalrules333

Visit Beautiful Northern Ithilien! In the Gondor Pack region.
How to get there: Warp to Henneth Annun.
What is it: A forest with ranger camps, particularly Henneth Annun.
When I first joined MCME, I spent most of my time looking around at all the famous places from the movies. Eventually, I got bored, and planned to quit the server. Just then, I was invited to join a road-building job in Northern Ithilien. By then, it was nearing completion, and all that was left to do were the camps and fine details. The sheer beauty of the forest amazed me; that was the first time I realized that there was more to MCME than just the "cool" and popular places. To this day, even with all of the lovely new places in Gondor being built, I still think that this forest is one of the most beautiful places in MCME.

Henneth Annun is wonderful as well, of course, not to mention all of the hidden ranger camps that you can find. If you want to take this as a challenge, good luck finding them, as I've been trying to find them for the last year and still have only found two.

In conclusion, Northern Ithilien is one of the most overlooked yet amazing places on the server, and I hope that more people will see this and experience it for themselves.

Closing Statement
I hope you have all forgiven us for not doing a Times last week. We give our sincere apologies, but leave you with this thought:

As with the Times, so is the whole server. We may sometimes lose steam, forget to do something, become unhappy with what is happening. But we will still stay, or at least come back after some time, and stick with the server and the cause we love. That is what makes MCME such a special, vibrant, living community, and I personally thank each and every one of you for it. And so, have a great week, and here is your cheesy, somewhat related quote to start it off.
A good half of the art of living is resilience.
-Alain de Botton
P.S. I thought about a Bowie quote and/or a Rickman quote and/or a Snape quote, but it was too hard because there are so many good ones.
