Project Progress

Andrast (New) - Lead: @Tyranystrasz
The last big area of Gondor is being started: Its westernmost lands, covering Andrast, Ras Morthil and Drúwaith Iaur.

Annúminas (In Progress) - Lead: @Will_em

Much notable progress once more from this city: Construction of a big new bath house has been started, interior of the huge palace is making good progress and looking really fancy, and some more houses along with some first vegetation have been added.
There are still many houses left that can be done by Artists. Speak to @Will_em or @jacenpeter if you want to tune in to the fun.

Calembel (In Progress) - Lead: @Ivan1pl

Houses are still needed. If you want to build some, read >>this<<. If you are Artist, you can build a house for rich district. Go to the town and search for dark green outlines.
There was some progress in administration district and more normal houses were pasted from plotworld.
- Ivan1pl

Dol Amroth (In Progress) - Lead: @Demonataz
The contest entries keep looking better every day, picking a winner there will be reeeally hard. To all participants: Only one more week left!

Lebennin (In Progress) - Lead: @otho
Villages are progressing and fields are finishing up.
We're just gonna continue with what we're doing and hopefully Lebennin will soon be done!
Be sure to check out for jobs (roads, walls) and other funnies!
- otho

Misty Mountains (In Progress) - Lead: @Finrod_Amandil
Work on the materials has started in the first half of the last section. I'm still planning for the oncoming next big part of the project, and this includes for example defining how far down the snow will lie on a specific north-south postion. I'm just gonna leave this here:

- DSESGH

This project went far further than only trees: Also small walls, rocks and camps are being added throughout the shire. If you have not done so in a long time: Be sure to go back to this now much nicer country!

This Week's Highlights
Media of the Week

For a change we have something different than the sinister screenshots of ruined cities this week: @wodleth did take a few shots in the WIP Gondor province Lebennin.

@Glovr was once more busy this week. Not only has he again made many new shots in his unique style but also has he started to create videos!
His new screens can be found >>here<< and his videos >>here<<

@Dallen, one of our genius developers has found another way to create pure visual epicness:

And here is another impression of this week's audiobook session, taken by myself.

Thanks to @Eriol_Eandur and @toeyoman who nicely ruined the deeping wall and added some other details along the fellowships route. The wall will stay like this for maybe another week, after that this version will most likely be copied to the Old Map Helms Deep, and the one on the new map will be put into intact state again.

And now I wanna mention two other kinds of Art submissions, both are already older than a week, but they shall be honoured nevertheless:

1. A first try for a new official server introduction video, made by @Tyranystrasz (intro & editing), @_Luk (ingame video) and @Arkengard (voice).

Luk also made a second, longer version that can be found >>here<<.

2. @Fireinferno13 made new icons for our resource packs; they haven't got the attention they deserve for a longer time, but now they are on their way to get implemented to the packs, and hopefully soon everyone's screen will look like this:

Edhellen mi Ennorath - Elvish in Middle-Earth

Part 10 - Lenition
We're back at actual elvish, more precisely Sindarin. Soon the winning entries of the short story contest will replace Edhellen mi Ennorath for some time; In the two editions till then I want to show how to create names, especially names for persons.
However, for that some bare grammar knowledge is needed, and thus today's topic is an introduction to Sindarin phonological mutations, covering the soft mutation also known as lenition.

Lenition and mutations in general is something strange to english (and german) speakers, but it's needed to give the language a softer flow. Thus in Sindarin it happens very often, that in certain situations the beginning of a word changes. In different situations different kinds of mutations appear, but for us the lenition is important, as it occurs when we make compounds.

This may now sound really unclear and confusing, thus here a few examples:
"Cloud-hill" = Fanui + dol --> Fanuidhol
"Elf-stone" = Edhel + sarn --> Edhelharn
"South-Gondor" = Har + Gondor --> Harondor

Lenition is also caused in some other situations, e.g. when a noun follows the article i ("the") or on an adjective that follows a noun.

What exactly happens in such situations depends on what letters are at the beginning of the 2nd word. So lenition can be summed in a simple list, using an example word each:
  • b: benn > venn
  • c: cair > gair
  • d: doron > dhoron
  • g: galadh > 'aladh
  • h: harad > charad
  • lh: lhaw > thlaw
  • m: mellon > vellon
  • p: paur > baur
  • rh: rhach > thrach
  • s: sereg > hereg
  • t: tôl > dôl
Unaffected are words that start with n, l, f, r, th.

Next week this knowledge will be used to create any kind of elvish names.

Community Outreach

LotR Audiobook: We listen to the Lord of the Rings, read by Phil Dragash, while visiting the places the story plays on our server, and sometimes even reenact the events. As once more proven last friday, it's totally amazing and an unforgettable experience. So get your popcorn ready and be on Teamspeak next Friday 27th march @ 9pm GMT. We will continue with Chapter 10 and 11 of Book III (= The Two Towers first half). The fun is hosted and sponsored by @Credoo.

Scheduled Tours: Our guides are running scheduled tours every week on Saturdays at 9pm GMT. So if you look for a tour and never managed to catch a guide to give you one, this is the date you gotta go on the server.

Short Story Contest:
@Tyranystrasz organised a Short Story Contest. Until the 29th of march (Only one week left now!) you can submit your fan-fiction based on Arda / Tolkiens Lore. The winner can win a gift card and the 3 best stories get featured here in the Times!
For more info read >>this post<<

Times Feedback:
Have a thought concerning the presentation of the MCME Times and how it can be improved? Because we are always looking for new ways to mix up and improve the Times experience through any means necessary and, if you have a comment or concern, it's likely that someone else had it as well and just didn't say anything about it. So be sure to message @Finrod_Amandil your thoughts through a PM or directly in this thread.

Closing Statement
You may have remarked it: Sometimes some projects are making incredibly fast progress, and sometimes nothing happens for weeks. Of course that is as we staff members too are nothing more than humans and our passion may sometimes need to take a break. But I'll let Tolkien speak about that topic for me:

“Fear both the heat and the cold of your heart, and try to have patience, if you can.”
- J.R.R. Tolkien, Unfinished Tales of Númenor and Middle-Earth

Dum, bum, dum

My first of what will become many small mentions. Even now I'm trying to plan out a Project. Making sure it's well-enough researched and laid out. Also big thanks to Fin's Sindarin lessons as I gave a presentation at my school briefly going over learning elven as you would another language.

(No better place to post this)

Got a free village in Lebennin that needs to be done and looking for an artist that can do it.
If you're interested, just message me in-game or send me a PM here.

I don't mind doing a village, have not done one yet :P

What happened to this? Is the siege version going onto the oldworld eventually?

No, sry I did not save or copy it; the terrain on the old map was astonishingly different; and thus in the end I decided against it.
