Map Refuses to Make the Times Title!
But Shen couldn't think of one so Map had to do it anyway!

Editor's Note by Mapthor
Howdy MCME, it’s your boy Mapthor back for another Editor’s Note. Ever since Events ended, work has been back to normal for everyone. Sevy and Company produced another Tour video for the YouTube channel, Mershy and Toti hosted a texturing workshop hoping to gain some more workers, and Soarz wants Shen to buy him some Orbeez. Don’t ask why, just roll with it. Regardless, we got some cool stuff on the horizon. New revamps being worked on, new textures being painted, new everything! Also, E3 is next month and the hype train is just getting started. We might even have some watch parties, but who knows

Happy Sailing

Anorien - Lead: @draonic_slayer | In Progress
Report by draonic_slayer

Progress over the last 2 weeks has been quite nice. In the Pelennor fields, farm land which was planned out has been filled with farmland full of produce and Roads have been laid out. Thamso has taken on the task of putting together a forest concept for the northern forest quadrant and has already started to make some promising concepts. Further around Anorien, Rwyland has planned some more of the ruined villages out. Finally on the small Fort that Mershy and Rwyland have been building, the cliff which it sits upon has been shaped and coloured and is look very impressive. Big thanks to junoknight, Soarz, and Supercat14 for helping out.

Lond Daer is progressing steadily. House plots have continued to be worked on, along with the towers along the outer wall. Work has also continued on the Palace and once it is done it will be pasted back into the main world.

The Movie Cave is swiftly moving on! Badger, Effie and her army have been working away at some interesting mining features and have started to create large rock formations along the path. Look out for jobs next week on the main path!

~ Lore of the Week ~

The Awakening of the Elves

Long ago, in the days before the Sun and Moon were set in heaven and the only lights over Middle-earth were the stars, the Firsborn Children of Ilúvatar - the Elves - have awakened in the far east of the world, in a land called Cuiviénen on the eastern shores of the great Sea of Helcar. The story of the Awakening is thus known as the Cuivienyarna - The Legend of the Awaking of the Quendi.

The first Quendi - “Speakers”, as they called themselves back then - were made by Eru himself, and had no parents; thus they were known as the Unbegotten. They awoke fully grown, though their minds were the minds of children, innocent and curious of the wide world around them. There were exactly 144 of them, though not all awoke at once.

First awoke Imin, then after him Tata and Enel; these three were the Elf-fathers, the eldest of their kind, and from their names came the words “One”, “Two” and “Three”, respectively. First as they awoke they saw the stars above them, but as they turned they saw their destined spouses still asleep beside them; entranced by their beauty, the three Fathers of the Elves began to think of words to describe their feelings, and in their impatience they awoke the Elf-mothers: Iminyë, Tatië and Enelyë. Thus “the first thing that each elf-woman saw was her spouse, and her love for him was her first love; and her love and reverence for the wonders of Arda came later.” (The War of the Jewels pp. 421 ff.).

The six fathers and mothers of the Elves dwelt together for a while and devised many new words, establishing the foundations of the Elven tongues. Soon enough they ventured away from the dell in which they had awakened, and came upon another, larger dell. There they found six more pairs of Quendi, just about to wake. Imin, being the eldest of the Elf-fathers, claimed to have the right of first choice, and thus he claimed the twelve Quendi they found as his people, and together they formed the First Tribe - the Minyar. Now the eighteen Elves walked together and found yet another group, now of nine pairs, just awakened. Tate, being the second, claimed these Quendi as his companions, and together they formed the Second Tribe - the Tatyar. At last the Quendi came across yet another group, now of twelve pairs lying by a stream, and Enel, the third, claimed those as his people and formed the Third Tribe - the Nelyar.

Then the sixty Quendi of the Minyar, Tatyar and Nelyar lived together by that stream for some time, devising longer words and singing songs to the sound of the rushing water, and looking at the stars through the boughs of the birch trees. At length they set off together again, in search of more companions. Now Imin noticed that every new group they came across was larger than the one before - and his tribe, only fourteen people, was by far the smallest; and so he thought to himself: “I have only twelve companions (although I am the eldest); I will take a later choice.”

Soon they came upon eighteen pairs of sleeping Quendi, and as they came near them their elf-men were awakened by a breeze; for a long while they looked at the stars, taking no heed of the others, until at last the awoke their spouses crying “elen, elen!” - and thus the stars were named in the Elven tongue. Imin, as he had resolved, passed the first choice over to Tata, and those eighteen pairs became part of the Tatyar - those Elves were “tall and dark-haired and strong like fir-trees, and from them most of the Noldor later were sprung.”

Once again they travelled, and came upon a lake, and on its eastern shore there was a tall cliff with a waterfall, the stars glittering in the foam. In that lake they found twenty-four pairs of Quendi, all awake and bathing and singing with no words, their voiced sweet and musical. Once more Imin skipped his choice, and thus those Quendi joined the Nelyar, and that tribe later came to be known as the Lindar “Singers”. Now the 144 Quendi dwelt together for long, devised their speech and were happy amongst each other.

Imin then said: “It is time now that we should go on and seek more companions.”
But the others were content, and would not go any further. And so the Minyar went off on their own, and long they searched for more companions, but found none. Thus the Minyar remained by far the smallest of the Elven kins; from their tribe came the Vanyar.

~ Closing Statement ~
'Some' is a bit of an understatement, but Soarz said he'd record himself in the pool with them so it is a necessary sacrifice for a worthy cause. I'm looking forward to the cool stuff- wait, more revamps? Oh no, the pursuit of perfection never ends! Bah- anyway, I hope E3 isn't as disappointing as I think it's going to be. Many of the recent releases haven't inspired confidence in me, that's for sure. As for the watch parties, if we're gonna have them hopefully we're gonna be watching something good- or something so bad that it ends up being good to watch, that works too.

Thanks and hope you enjoyed,
Shen

Excellent work, Times Team!
