Current State of Progress: Build Planning and Concepts phase
Introduction:
We are excited to formally announce the long awaited MCME Hub project! This will be run predominantly by the Guide team with the help of Artists for the building aspects. The project will be split up into planning, concept work and build stages.
You will be teleported to the New Player Hub after the cinematic showcase of MCME, currently being developed by @maski98. The cinematic showcase is a separate project to the MCME Hub.
More information about the layout of the project can be found under the designs section. This will be developed as we progress through the project. There should be areas where anyone can go to which lets the player warp to different worlds.
Background Information
The idea of a hub has been around for several years and it was first proposed by BWOT having a new player world on the island of Avalone. Since then there have been various other ideas for a hub. The current new player world has been used for several years and it does not show the current standard of building on the server. It asks a few questions that are now not as relevant as they used to be. A hub world could be used as a point where all players could come together and find information about the server. This project will explore previous ideas, research hubs on other servers, and develop a hub for MCME.
Project Outline:
Stage 1 – Research (Complete):
Conduct initial research (lead by the Guide team) on hubs on different servers, as well as previous ideas developed on MCME. This will allow us to get a good understanding of what a Player Hub needs. This could include the look and feel of the hub, positions of NPCs, and what information needs to be included in the hub.
Do you want to get involved with research? Then go to the end of the post to see how you can. Feedback will be invaluable when it comes to the layout of the hub and what needs to be included.
Stage 2 – Designs (Complete):
Following the research phase, designs for the hub will need to be created which will help inform builders. Some initial ideas for the hub designs:
- An expandable feel
- Large signs which guide players and paths for them to follow
- Islands or parkour
- Centralized space
- It must be easily usable for new players (self-explanatory)
Stage 3 – Build Planning & Concepts (In Progress):
A final design will be chosen and it can be planned in-game. Concepts using MCME block palettes can be created, these can be rough designs or plans of more detailed sections.
Produce a large scale model of the hub and agree on positionings of hub elements.
Stage 4 – Building (Not started):
Building of the hub using the agreed block palette and design. This will be led by the build team.
Positions of hub elements can also be agreed in this stage.
Continuous feedback can be given throughout the building stage as is done with any other building project - remember this will be one of the first things players see when they can explore MCME. Community feedback may be incorporated and any necessary adjustments based on said feedback.
Stage 5 – Development & Implementation
This final stage will take the build and bring the hub to life. It will include everything non-building that will be needed to implement the hub, including setting up information about the server, connecting it to other worlds, and anything else that needs to be done.
How to get Involved
The Guide team to be involved in this project as well as the builders who will be required for the building of the project. If any team members want to get involved, please message in the #new-player-world project channel in Discord.
For Commoners, please DM either @Smaug_Niphredil or @TotiGonzales on Discord. All help is appreciated and we would be more than happy to get you sorted with some work.
