Hey slow,
I have one question: why do you make a new application? You have already an artist application..

Hey Slow, lolbroek is right. Please stick to only one application thread and just edit the main post and whenever you update it: reply to that main post and write down update.

Please do this to your old application and just add this info or change and edit the main post of the last thread. Then we can delete this thread to clear the mistake :)

Hey Slowlex,

Thanks for applying for the Artist rank! I am just currently reviewing your Themed Builds and would like to give you some feedback to it:

Town TB:
  • I just love the atmosphere you created in your Town TB! Very good job on the vegetation and the details, especially such things as the custom heads as frogs, this is what brings life to the builds!
  • Have you imagined a specific sort of inhabitants for these houses? If I had to guess I'd say Hobbits leaving near the Gladden Fields or Swanfleet...
  • Good job in really picking one certain style for the houses and then sticking with it! I do like the style you chose as well!
  • As far as I can tell from the dark screenshots, interior looks fine, but I'll have to check that out ingame at some point. Maybe a few more windows to allow for some more light inside?
  • The market is lovely as well, especially the pumpkin stacks are nice. The little melon looks a bit alien, but one could argument that it's just a different sort of pumpkin.
  • I like that you seem to be quite innovative and creative, such as using fences for the tree near the stream, or the small cart at the market!
  • Also very good job on the ground materials (paths resp. walked-over grass, riverbed...)!
  • So all in all, from the screenshots, I cannot name anything you still could improve. Very well done!
Mindon Eldaliéva:
  • First of all, it's way too small; I know making tall towers is a lot of work (in fact I made a TB about this theme myself once), but with scaling it down so much you just don't get the same experience as you would if you'd build a larger structure.
  • Good job on the materials! All-white structures are difficult to not make look bland, and with your combination of the small and large bricks and the pillar blocks you chose well. Still it may be interesting to stray a little further from the pure white; there's many other blocks in Gondor that have very light colors and would not stand out too extremely from the white that may give the design some extra variety.
  • I don't like the overall shape of the tower so much, it does not look elvish to me, and structurally seen you just have a very wide base for a tower that quickly gets thinner and is not so high. Your tower looks quite "fat", and wastes a lot of material that would not be needed to make it a stable building. If you google for images of "old tower" you'll see that most are straight (that is what we consider "human style" of towers on here), elvish ones are usually interpreted as being more slander than that, and often curvy. Here's for example what my vision for my TB from some years ago was:
    q8yaGp2.jpg
  • Otherwise, the detail shapes are very well done, also the roof is very nicely shaped!
Last Bridge:
  • Attention when designing structures: The priority is to design things so that they don't collapse over that they look nice. With the building skills of Middle-earth and this building material you are pretty much bound to using arches that are facing down (like this: ͡ ).
  • I personally discourage using the dark grey bricks and the light gray bricks side to side. The reason is that the texture and the color is identical, only the brightness is different. This makes it look irritating as it seems as if the dark bricks lay in shadow and the light ones in sunlight, but they actually are not. It is possible to make these two look good next to each other, but it's difficult, and other combinations looks better in most cases.
  • The surface of the bridge should in my opinion be pretty flat, without many fancy up's and down's. After all the Last bridge is part of the Great East Road where, when it was built, there was a lot of traffic, going on, and presumably a lot of goods got transported on carts, which would prefer not having such obstacles when crossing the bridge.

So, again, I really adore your Town TB! But the other two do show some flaws still, and I'd like to be sure whether the quality you were able to achieve in the Town TB is what you can now achieve all the time. I'll also be reaching out to the Designers, asking about how they perceived you recently and whether they'd like to work more closely together with you ;)

~ Finrod

Also btw Slow I would just like to repeat something that I said to you earlier in-game (maybe you forgot). But you asked, "how can I get more detail and show it in my build (for the town tb)?" I think the Eriador resource pack is one of the hardest to show small details in as it is I believe our oldest pack. I think you did a great job with it but if you really want to show detail; I would use rp 2. Lots of things in there to use for detail.

I'm sorry, but I can't find your last bridge. You would help us a lot, if you could make an album (here at the media section or at imgur) for each build and put links to the albums in your application post above. When you update a build either make a new album or remove the outdated screenshots. Also a short description on what you chanced would be helpful.

Hey Slowlex,

@BWOT, @Darki and I reviewed your application today. We like your town Themed-build very much. But Artist should have good building skills with various things. Thus we would like to ask you improve your larger buildings: Last Bridge and the Tower of Mindon Eldaliéva. Finrod already gave you a lot of feedback about those. Tbh I don't see much changes in your last Bridge update. I still miss realistic arches and the middle pillar is way too massive. It's blocking too much of the river imo.
We would also like to you to do a house in Royal Town of Dol Amroth on your own with all interiors. I gave you a plot there. It's the house of a taylor making cloths for the rich people around and maybe even for the prince himself. To get there do /plot warp ArtistTrials 2.

Looking forward to your build

Hello Slowlex,

@Eriol_Eandur , @Darki and I have looked at your building. We gave you feedback and we gave you a talk about your house and things to improve.
These were:
-Stairs
-Bigger cellar
-More storage
-Chimney derps
-Connecting house derps

So we saw what you did after doing all these things:
We were still not happy with the stairs so we fixed them for you. We saw you added more storage however just adding meat to it, is not what we are looking for. We added more storage as we thought it needed more. Even though the connecting house derps are not that important we still wanted you to change it. Instead of fixing the chimney derp you decided to remove it entirely, this is not what we are looking for. We also noticed that the "roof" of the ground floor, so basically the bottom of the first floor, was all made of sandstone: even though it looks nice, it was entirely made out of item blocks. I don't know if you are aware but this causes serious lag when accumulated. If you want to have a wooden floor just use log supports and wooden slabs. You can see this in other houses. But a mix is obviously not good as it requires too many item blocks to make.

So you are probably wondering what we are going to do with this... we think you have a lot of good ideas and you are so close to achieving what we are expecting. So, because you fell a bit short of our expectations in this house we are giving you another chance. Another Royal Town house. You should be able to go through this challenge easily as I have given you lots of feedback. We will set up as soon as possible and will notify you when we do.

Good work and don't be discouraged. We still give artists lots of feedback and sometimes require them to change a lot. We are just ensuring you are all ready and good to go on your own so that you do not have to go through this hardship. Good luck.

Hello @Slowlex_ ,

@Eriol_Eandur,@Darki and I have went over your artist challenge build today. You have now done two challenges, your first needed a bit of work but you took that advice well and made a great building and so I would like to congratulate you to the purple legion!

So what did we like about your build:
  • Your exteriors were different but still in style just like Matthews, its good to see some new ideas from new players. However, there is one derpy wall on your newest challenge but that's where the critique stops.
  • Your interior has significantly improved from your first challenge great job but just realize we had to help you with it a bit so you need to practise this aspect.
There is still a bit to improve on your artist challenge build as I mentioned (derpy wall), but we believe you are at a point where you will learn the rest of the tricks through being an Artist. Make sure to go through the training courses made so far if not already done so.

Congratulations again and I will promote you (or Fin) when we are on the server at the same time.

-BWOT

Congratulations on getting Artist Slow. You may now wear the Artist's Armor* and add your name to one of the pillars in the Hall of Artists. Both you can find at /warp Artist Base. Welcome to the Purple Legion!
(* the Artist's Armor is nothing official)
