Do you talk on Teamspeak?
Yes, quite a lot actually

What makes a great Guide according to you?

After scrolling through the forums, talking to others and my own contemplation, I believe that being a great Guide has a basic understanding of the lore for both the server and the Tolkien world but also has the ability or even eagerness to greet adventurers, new and old alike and help them on their journeys.

Some I have talked to have been confused by this point of view because their own point is the guides are their view that guides are there to give tours and to help new adventurers find their way on the server. I contest that it is so much more.

The understanding of the lore for the world that the server is built around is a must because one of the jobs of Guide is to give tours. I do not believe however that you need to be know every detail about Tolkien to be a great guide unless you are into that or want to learn that. There are Guides on the server that know pretty much everything about every part of Tolkien's world down to the Numenorean mile. I will never be that knowledgeable about Tolkien lore no matter how much I study and that's okay because that alone does not a great Guide make.

Guides greet new adventurers when they join the server and answer questions about the server. So server lore is also a must. It is important to know about the ranks, how you acquire them, how the server functions as a community, but one does not need to know who built every every house or placed every brick. If you do, more power to you, but that alone does not a great Guide make.

The most important point to being a Guide is the encouraging, the positivity, the equality, and patience. Guides encourage adventurers to get involved and how they go about doing that. Guides require positivity and equality to be able to deal with more difficult adventures. The ability to patiently guide these difficult few through their questions and needs is very important.

In conclusion, Guide do need to have a basic understanding of lore both Tolkien and server. Guides need to have a good understanding of how the server works as well as the rank system and acquiring them. Guides need patience, positivity, the ability to encourage anyone no matter what. Guides do not just guide tours through Moria but are guides through MCME life.
