MCME Easter Egg Hunt 2017
So you thought last year's hunt was tough?
I am pleased to present you yet another instance of the almost already classy Easter Egg Hunt here on MCME! This event is about finding a couple of eggs, placed somewhere on the MCME server. As a special new addition I have a prize this year for the player who manages to find all the eggs the fastest, if anyone manages to do so at all. Just as the event itself, the prize is rather puzzling...

(I checked the postage prizes, should be able to deliver in pretty much any corner of the Earth)

The event starts on Easter Sunday, 2pm BST. The eggs will be pasted in shortly before the event. The eggs will be present for two weeks, that means until Sunday, April 30th. That also marks the deadline for submissions.

Here's some facts, tips and tricks for your hunt, changes to last year are marked in bold:

  • The eggs are placed within Minecraft, on a server that is part of the MCME Network and on a location which is accessible to any Adventurer+ throughout the time of the event.
  • To unravel the hints you will require to use certain services from within the MCME Network as well as outside it, i.e. Google searches.
  • The eggs are coming in any color, and are 8 blocks tall and 5 wide.
  • The hint for the next egg is found on signs on the previous egg.
  • Each egg also contains a sign with the name of a character devised by J.R.R. Tolkien, but with the letters scrambled up.
  • To win you need to message me the unscrambled names from the eggs in the right order through the Forums or Discord.
  • There are 20 correct eggs.
  • There are an additional 17 wrong eggs, which look just like correct eggs, just with other scrambled names on it. For each hint theres only one correct egg and 0 - 2 wrong eggs. I am trying to formulate the hints such that it's undebatable onto which egg the hint fits best.
  • Out-of-the-box thinking is vital.
  • Teaming up is encouraged, but there's only one, hardly dividable, prize.
  • I will be a bit more reluctant with giving out hints than last year, in order to keep things fair. I retain the right to disqualify players I help specifically, or even cancel the prize altogether if I have the impression certain players have an unfair advantage.
  • In order to obtain your prize you will need to send me your address through a pm, the data will be treated confidentially.
And here's your first hint:

Omg Imloth Melui Puzzle <3

Can we please have a hint for egg 3? Like a public one that it is still equally fair. A lot of ppl are struggling with that one or give up because they can't find it.

I come home tonight at 1 am and im gonna stay up until i do it, people are free to join me in the hunt, starting at 1:30 am

All eggs are now pasted, and I double-checked hopefully all scrambled names!

Submit the names in correct order to me via Discord or the Forums. If you a name for each of the twenty eggs i will tell you whether you have any wrong names from wrong eggs or not.

Alright, as @thomasd_17 seems to be trying to dissect the right from the wrong eggs by trying to trick me, I add the additional rule that I will only answer 5 on submissions with the info about how many eggs are still wrong. After that the last submission will count and I will not give anymore hints on it.

The hunt has been won by @thomasd18! The puzzle goes to him then, congratulations! The eggs will still remain on the map until next weekend. In the next few days I will post the solutions and how to unscramble the hints the right way.
If it's not too much work, could you post 2nd hints as well as full solutions for each of the eggs? If we want to still try and find everything ourselves but need a little more guidance or a nudge in the right direction. Thanks.

Alright, sorry for the delay on the hints and solutions! I will leave the eggs on the map until next Sunday so you can still try to find them all using the hints.

Also thomas, sorry I havent got round to bring your prize to the post, will do that asap!

Egg #1:
Not all locations and events that appear in the lore have already been recreated on the map...
There's not many things happening in the short video. Search for a spot where something very similar could have happened.
The Video titles "Titanic Hitting Iceberg Collision Scene". Obviously it can not be very important that the ship is the Titanic as you'll hardly find any Titanic-reference on any map. So the important thing is "hitting iceberg". It is not primarily about a ship sinking, thats not in the video. Its about a ship hitting an iceberg. The correct egg is in the Icebay of Forochel. It connects to the story of the last king of Arthedain, Arvedui, who tried to escape the war Angmar waged against his realm, also trying to save two Palantíri. He was warned of the treacherous waters by the Snow-Men (Lossoth), but ignored their advice. The egg is not hidden from dynmap so you can find a bit quicker. Wrong eggs are at the two shipwrecks that appear ingame, /warp shipwreck and /warp 'melon wreck'.

Egg #2:
If the word "heart" appears, you probably have to deal with, yeah, a love story.
There's two prominent locations that have to do with said love story. One houses the right and one the wrong egg. Both have water, but they dont make the same kind of noise.
The love story is about Nimrodel and Amroth. The two prominent locations are The Falls of Nimrodel, where Nimrodel used to sing in solitude next to the waterfalls, and the other one was where Amroth embarked a ship, which disappeared later on, Nimrodel arrived at Edhellond after he departed, waiting for his return. On one hand it's not clear whether Nimrodel sang in Edhellond as well, furthermore the secluded harbor has with very high chance no splashing water. Thus Edhellond is the wrong egg and the Falls of Nimrodel the right one.

Egg #3:
This is no quote. Don't think too far. Check what is mentioned, then find a place onto which everything applies.
It's no reference to any part of any story Tolkien ever wrote. It's a place that doesn't appear in the books. Use Dynmap to find some good candidates for the place.
- The place is remote, far away from the next village (bonus: far off a village that has a market and is connected to with a windy road)
- They grow potatoes and carrots
- They're two persons so the house has probably two beds.
There's one correct egg at a lonely house in northern Anfalas and two wrong eggs in the same greater area that do not match the description tho. Some argued that it may be Tom Bombadil, but that house has no road (albeit someone said it should).

Egg #4:
Well the word "portcullis" should already help you quite a bit for what sort of building you look for...
Yeah, to understand the hint wholly you need elvish. But don't worry, even without profound knowledge you are allowed to consult a dictionary...
The correct egg is in Hithrengarth, a false egg is in another small castle which actually is quite a bit harder to find. Hithrengarth means simply "Grey Fort" which is not that really a name that would win an award for creativity.

Egg #5:
There may be some items in Middle-earth that can carry noises very far, but not voices. So you may have to look elsewhere.
"image", not painting, not even photograph, a digital image is spoken of!
I actually doubt anyone has found this egg by reading the hint the right way. The idea for this egg I had already one year ago upon which I made first promises to make it even harder.
The part with "Not for seeing far it could be used" is very deceptive as it ofc points to the Palantíri. There's a wrong egg at Elostirion for those who still think of Palantíri. As mentioned above, there may be an item on the map that can carry noise very far: The Horn of the Hornburg at Helm's Deep. But thats a wrong egg, as it cannot carry voices. It's surprising how quickly you seem to have forgotten about our beloved Teamspeak server. That's the thing that now lies almost silent and can carry voices everywhere. If you go on the TS server there is a server banner that can be seen on the right side of the window, if you have that part visible ofc. The image MCME is using is a screenshot showind Imloth Melui. That is where the right egg is, and it's somewhat fitting that it is also the subject of the winner prize :P

Egg #6:
There's one key word in the hint, and it is not "Merthin".
There sure is a place that has a name that has some connection to "shells"...
There is a non-canonical island outside the Belfalas shore, named "Turtle Rock". On it there is a small graveyard with a "Lord Merthin" buried there. No wrong eggs on this one.

Egg #7:
"Oh my god, runes, I don't know anything about this!" "Well then go find out about it. Google is your friend"
"Theres two sorts of runes Tolkien deceived, the Cirth and the old english runes from the Hobbit. You'll need the latter. The text you get is elvish, but Google should be able to translate for you.
The runes read "Cirith Forn en Andrath" which is the elvish name for the High Pass. If you follow the High Pass Road (starting at the Fords of Bruinen) you'll eventually find the egg. Wrong eggs are in Erebor (cuz runes = dwarves duh) and in Rivendell as that is where the moon runes were read in the Hobbit.

Egg #8:
"Fly you fools!" English is a really weird language sometimes.
If you fly downwards very quickly one usually does speak of falling, not flying.
The egg is hidden behind a ledge, opening into the chasm below the bridge of Khazad-dûm in Moria. That ledge is above the bridge. Wrong eggs are at the bottom of the chasm and in the First Hall at the East Gate.

Egg #9:
Oookay yeah, the egg does exist twice, but thats due to technical limitations.
So where does the grizzly bear hold his winter sleep? No, not at an open-aired lake.
The egg is within the Glittering caves, at one of the mirrored lakes. Actually its in the cave furthest to the back, make sure you don't get confused when trying to get there. A wrong one is at Mirrormere.

Egg #10:
This has nothing to do with Frodo, but sure with the sort of claws whose owner also carried Frodo
I think it's worded pretty obviously that the egg is not on the main map
The right egg is in Plotworld, at a copy of the Carrock. The carrock is the rock where the Eagles "deposited" Bilbo and the Dwarves. A wrong egg is in Mount Doom where Eagles saved Frodo from.

The other 10 will come soon(TM)
