(A lot of text, I know, but worth it to read )

Hello I am JustJoren.

I have been playing minecraft for around about 6 years. I have always really enjoyed the building aspect of minecraft, mainly in survival. The love for building in creative mode is surely due to my time spend on the MCME server.
I've heard from MCME for the first time when a friend told me 2 years ago. Since then I heard a couple times about it again, but I never really got around to actually join the server. Untill in August 2017 the youtuber Welsknight toured the server (yes I am one of that annoying welsknight-guys ) MCME came back in my mind and on the 25 of August 2017 i joined for the first time.

After exploring the world I made immediatly a themed build. The theme was house of kings. I got really carried away building it and it has become one of my proudest builds. Then I actually realized that the quickest and best way to get commoner was doing jobs . So I started doing jobs.

Here is a list of jobs i've done (in a rough time-based order)

-My first job was with Patrick_0901, living quarters in moria
-A lot of jobs in seatown, DA with barteldvn, house building and street building
-3 ruining jobs in moria, 2 with thomasd18 and one with Dav3ck
- river bed building with Eriol_Eandur (I think in Dol Amroth)
-street building with BWOT in New Town, DA.
-floor designing in moria with barteldvn
-(small) riverbed building in gondor with barteldvn
-terrain smoothing in gondor with barteldvn
-and some jobs I've probably forgot already

I've been really active in August and the start of September 2017 but then school started kicking in.
I live quite far from my school and I spend a lot of time getting there. Also the work was growing and the tests became more regular. I couldnt really play any minecraft anymore so my activity on MCME was pretty low.

I like to build in medieval styles (in Lotr its probably Gondorian). My hobbies beside minecraft are:
-Music (im a musical talent) I play 3 intruments and I like singing
-Art I have a talent for drawing (got that from both of my parents)
-I make animation films on friday night
-I like sporting, mainly athletics
-reading, I really like to read fantasy themed books like Lotr and The Hobbit
(I play not a lot of games beside minecraft).

I want to apply for artist because I want to be able to do more for the server. MCME means creativity for me: showing your creativity to others, sharing it and above all help the wonderful world of MCME growing and improving to a mostly realistic but also fantasy representation of J.R.R Tolkiens Middle-Earth!

As an artist I would really like to help (if we eventually come around to it) building the part of the world that is
mentioned in The Hobbit (Erebor, Lake Town, Smaugs restplace, etc). If not I would like to help in Gondor and Dol Amroth (anywhere is good, really).

This are the screenshots I took for the application, there are some random MCME screenshots to enjoy as well! JustJoren's Artist Apply on the Minecraf Middle-Earth serve

Thank you for your application JustJoren!

I was waiting for this one

And now you come up with that House of Kings Themed-build. First impression is wow, just wow!
I like the outside design very much. It's a rather plain design without too many fancy details without looking boring. That is hard to achieve, very well done. Also mixing light and dark grea stone bricks is actually a no-go as it looks bad usually, but here is looks great in my opinion. Just one detail about the trees: Use /get logs to get blocks with bark texture on all six sides. Also though the trees are good, I suppose the Kings of Gondor would wish some more impressive trees here

The interior of your hall is a bit too simple imo. The simple pillar design might fit well with the outside, but at least there should some details like some statues for example.

Until you get accepted you should continuously improve your application. Add some details to your House of Kings. Also an additional Themed-build would not hurt. It's good to see you can build a wide variety of things. Don't forget to reply to this thread and explain what you updated in your application thread at the top.

@JustJoren
Hi! Thanks for you awesome application!
Firstly I 100% agree with eriol! That house of Kings looks great! But if you want to make it a professional build you should redo the intiror and add outside details...
I say this to everyone but the most important thing on becoming artist is when you are building there is a few questions you must ask yourself!
"Does this make sense?" "Is this realistic?" "Is this too much or too little?" "Would this work?" And more
The only limit to building is your imagination and creativity so keep building and think out side the box for ideas to overcome your troubles you incounter!
Best of luck! I want to see many more builds from you! (Make theme builds and more job builds!)

@didi45 I know I had to show more job builds but alas i cant find them
Also what is lacking to the outside you think?

As a terraforming guy I believe in terrain first always make your terrain real and just look good! Of course some custom trees are nice try those and some broken roads and buildings

@didi45 I know I had to show more job builds but alas i cant find them
To be honest job pictures are not really important here. What we are really interested in are pictures of your Themed-builds.
Participating in a jobs is very important of course to show your skills to collaborate and communicate. The Forman or Designer will notice whereas a picture doesn't say much about these skills.

Hey JustJoren!
Thanks for your application! I must agree that your TB looks incredible! You've got a very good eye for materials and for shapes, your build looks almost perfect to me, both out- and inside. There is only a small number of things I think you could still improve:
  • The entrance door looks really ugly in my opinion. I would make the door out of wood, but only around 3x3, 3x5 or 5x5 blocks big and fillin the rest of this front with something stony.
  • The wooden bits on the interior look a bit odd to me, I think I'd rather use stony materials only.
  • As the building looks overally quite well-maintained I'd use less of the red/mixed cobblestone, and only use mossy bricks near the ground / foliage.
  • A broader / fancier path to the entrance would seem more fitting
  • You can use some more stairs and slabs on the roof to make ot look a little smoother
Other than that there's tons of things I absolutely love about this build, the shapes of the wall decorations, of the slanted stone brick roof beams inside and the towers, the materials chosen and how you combined them - in 99% of the builds it looks really odd to combine dark and light gray bricks right next to each other but in your build it looks amazing! I love the statues made with anvils and cauldrons, I have never seen anyone else trying this before!

I don't have to think for very long about what I will do with you. I congratulate you on getting promoted to Artist and hope you can also transform your skills onto smaller buildings! Please check out the Artist Manual before you start off!

Welcome into the Purple Legion @JustJoren. Feel free to pick up your new colors at the chests outside the Artist Stronghold in Freebuild and add your name to one of the pillars in the Hall of Artists if you like. (btw. If you're wondering; No. The Artist armor and banners are nothing official, just fun things I made for us a while back). Congratulations and once again welcome to the Purple Legion.
