Application Process
The following bullet points outline the process from applying on the forums to being promoted.
  • New applications will be on the forums
    • The Guides will review the application and a final decision will be made by the Head Guide on whether the application is continued or denied.
    • Applicants must have a positive application, meet the minimum requirements, be active on the server, and have a certain level of maturity for their application to be progressed.
    • Applicants who are progressed will be encouraged to keep their application updated.
Once the initial forum application is accepted, the application is in progress and the following points happen until the end:
  • There will be no minimum or maximum time period on an application
    • There are no time periods on the application so there is no pressure put on applicants.
    • The application period is similar to how the Guide role actually is on the server.
    • After a period of 3 months, applicants will be asked if they would like to continue their application or take a break if they have not achieved Guide at this point. This is to ensure that applicants continue to have motivation and it is important to take breaks to keep up the motivation
    • Applications would be cancelled if applicants are no longer regularly active on the server, without a reason, or are no longer interested in becoming a Guide.

  • Applicants will be assigned a mentor.
    • This will be a current Guide who is willing to help assist the applicant, provide training and give feedback. The applicant may ask for a specific Guide to be their mentor.
    • Each applicant can have more than one mentor.

  • Applicants will be given the Minigames and Tours badges.
    • Applicants should learn both of these plugins so they are able to run them on the server.
    • The touring aspect of the application should be run in a similar way to jobs in Foreman applications
    • Applicants should be able to practise tours and receive feedback

  • Applicants will need to complete a trial tour or event.
    • Applicants either need to complete a trial tour or a trial event during their application.
    • Both the trial tour or event need to use voice chat.
    • If applicants choose to complete a trial tour:
      • The mentor and applicant can decide when this happens.
      • The trial tour tests the applicant's ability to plan, organise, and interact with people, as well as the applicant’s knowledge of server and lore.
    • If applicants choose to complete a trial event:
      • The trial event tests the applicant's ability to plan and organise an entertaining event, and to interact with people.
      • The applicant’s initial ideas for a trial event have to be approved by the Guide leadership before the applicant starts to plan the event.

  • There will be a set of defined criteria for the applicant.
    • The applicant must meet all the criteria in order to be eligible for promotion to Guide.
    • The Head Guide will have the final decision on promotions and can also make exceptions when applicants cannot fulfil all the criteria. Guides do not have to take part in reviewing applications.
    • The criterion are:
      • Acceptable level of Tolkien lore knowledge and knows where to find more when needed.
      • Good level of knowledge about the server, the ranks, and how the server works, including building.
      • Is a helpful person and is able to help new players in chat with correct answers.
      • Is able to run minigames and to be competent with the plugin.
      • Is able to pass a trial tour or trial event.
      • Is active on the server and discord.
    • The applicant’s experience as a Commoner can be considered when reviewing these criteria.
    • Ex-Guides who would like to return to the rank must meet these expectations.
