2014 - A Year in Reflection

Hmm, where to start is the question. I've been meaning to reply to this post since it first went up but I think now that it's New Year's is it time that I can actually try and mumble together an answer.
I mean 2014 has been my first full year here on MCME. A full year, fancy that.

I have been so blessed this year to have met so many fantastic, lovely, inspiring and motivating individuals that really care about what they do and are just generally fantastic company. I can certainly say that I have made many true friends on here and that I couldn't be more grateful for the times spent building and playing together, watching films, even singing and reading poetry.

I really hope that things that I was able to help bring in with the help of so many others, such as the Summer Events as well as behind the scene planning of a few more events here and there, have brought as much enjoyment to you as they have me. By far my most favourite times this year have been in tours, jobs or events where we all pull together as a community to have fun.

To pick out just a few moments from this year, I fondly remember:
  1. The tonnes of marsh jobs at the start of the year. Working with such fantastic staff such as @Will_em and having the brilliant company of people like @Jesskuu and @Malkizid.
  2. Being promoted with @kyzcool to ranger, despite personally being quite frankly a mediocre tourer at best, the amount of new people I met was fantastic. I still love to say hello to each new member and I got to know so many people in the community really quickly. As ranger I even began with the Summer Event Planning with @Iru. All them spreadsheets. Spreadsheets get you ranks.
  3. Getting Foreman, because I wanted to help the community build and fix trees after spending many hours doing tree fixes and road jobs. 130 jobs in total I took part in all in all. I remember the many hours I bugged @rwyland to teach me how to build haha.
  4. I vividly remember a particular Grond Canyon. That was a bit of a laugh as well as the many other voxel derps throughout the year, not limited to, but including: Giant flower balls crashing the server during audiobooks; my giant wool removal during the summer survival and the countless messing arounds with water and lava on main and freebuild.
  5. Summer Event. I don't really think I can put into words how insane it was to have so many people turn up just for the opening. That vibe I think was so fantastic and just asdfgh. I want to thank everyone again for helping or taking part as it wouldn't be the same without you.
  6. People drinking to lotr and not actually lasting the full film before giving up and just downing alcohol as well as listening to countless Bohemian Rhapsody choirs that happen spur of the moment.
  7. Playing with mobs on main with @Credoo and @Despot666 Ever travel a tour on a pig? 10/10
  8. @gigo09 and fireworks. 'nough said.
  9. Joining a podcast with co-hosts @rcpopcornman, @Indorilian, @Wollip666, @muteberlin and @jakethegardian as well as countless guests.
  10. And finally, sleeping through both my first enforcer meeting and @Lady_Of_Rohan trial tour despite making all previous meetings and tours since guide. And generally being comfortable enough to fall asleep any old place on TS.
Thank you all once again for such a fantastic year of fun and silly memories. Here's to another!

Same for me
I remember First Joining, and meeting KnightZack60 and balrog_slayer219, and Lady_of_Rohan, and ninjapotafo, and also Yojumbo. I learned the ways of saying hey to everyone and welcoming everyone. In a short time I have covered prettty much the whole map, up to Forochel! I met people like ardelenia and q220 and many more! It has been a great year!!!

Many of you know about my struggles this last year and in the current state (alittle tipsyish), I would rather not dwell on the on those too much, but instead the time since Aug 17, 2014 the date I joined the most wonderful community that I now call family.

From the first day of being on this server, I knew something was different, friendly people, a teamspeak active community, a community that cares about each other, and an open community. From the first moment I joined teamspeak and mcme, I was treated like family. I was welcomed as if a long forgotten relative had just walked through a door and greeted with hugs and smiles. Between @SugarKoala and @CEFKILLA41320 saying whats up and welcome. Yeah I know it is something different for cef to say something nice like welcome. We all come to expect it from Lizzy. The channel of 9 people accepted me as just another fun person.

It is different, it was good. As I dwell, one might say that feeling I got, is the same feeling that I try to put forward to new members. It is probably why I was told, "Apply for Ranger, now.... or else" I never asked what was the or else. Anyways, the second day a most unusual event happened, the same @SugarKoala asked this no named scrub, "What is the most horrifying/torture movie you have ever seen?" It was something like that anyways by the time the movie she settled, @Iru, @Indorilian , @SugarKoala and I, at least in my mind had become fast friends.

Many say that I showed my true colors during the "Commoner incident of 2014," but remember much like I am doing now just emptying my mind on to a sheet of paper, metaphorically. I felt most honored when I was selected to be a Guide, the close knit group that they are. The likes of @speeder45, @kyzcool, @CEFKILLA41320 from manilla, @gigo09, @Arkengard, and certainly not least @DarthRagnar welcomed me there with open arms.

For some reason, a podcast fell in my lap. Which is one of the greatest confusions of my life. At the time that I am writing this on youtube we have 176 subscribers, on twitch we have 113 followers, and the crazy number of 7488 on itunes/rss feed, that is crazy. The podcast reaches its 14th episode after 24 hours of craziness this friday at 4EST. Whether we are talking about current builds or desert islands or tony abbott, one can never anticipate the wonder and excitement of a podcast loosely based about a minecraft community. I am honored to say that I am to share the experience with wonderful folks like @muteberlin, @Wollip666, @Indorilian, @jakethegardian, and @SugarKoala. The special guests bring their own flair to the episodes, all of which are wonderful people.

Bottomline, everyone makes this community the best on the internet. Whether it is @Lady_Of_Rohan's ability to like and respond to everything before anyone else or her joy at giving tours every 30 minutes, or @JordD04's ability to be an encyclopedia of middle earth knowledge and still have the space in his head to be able to be naturally witty and just an all around pleasure to be around. @CEFKILLA41320 from manilla to be the first person to make light of a terrible situation by calling me daredevil when I was totally rekted by the realization that I may never see again, or @ShadowWolf_32's undying ability to stop everything to play lol just cause, @DarthRagnar's ability to always be the quiet completely level headed person every community needs to call everyone on their bs when it is infact bs or just not cool. You all know I can go on and on @Bocklebee's dream of having a perfect farm, the many memers like @Wollip666, or @muteberlin. One only has to think the name @Malkizid and remember the chipmunk or the ear bleeding decibel his deep voice gets while playing castle crashers, or @meggawatts laughter at the air, the straight up air he breathes, I mean seriously he laughs at the air. I know I missed many people but I will end on the legend that is @Iru who's honor, leadership, integrity, humor and ability to keep this crazy family moving in one direction.

You are all the best part of 2014 and I am sure you will be the best parts of 2015. I love you all and hope that at this landmark in the sea of many landmarks of your lives you take a moment to see how lucky we truly are to have each other and how wonderful each and everyone of you are.

Happy New Year,
Rcpopcornman
